چکیده
Abstract We present a detailed analysis of the rest-frame UV and optical emission-line spectrum partially obscured quasar J121704.70+023417.1 (hereafter J1217+0234). Here obscuring material, very likely dusty torus invoked by AGN unification models, acts as natural coronagraph, which greatly suppresses both continuum broad-line emission in enables clear detection three components at beyond scale: (1) The component, with blueshift v ≈ 1200 km s −1 line width FWHM 2600 , shows exceptionally large intensity ratios, such N /Ly α 2.3 O vi 1.4, indicating that emitting gas is highly ionized has high density up to n H ∼ 10 13 cm −3 possibly associated torus. (2) largely unshifted narrow-line 510 completely absent all lines but Ly significantly detected forbidden [O iii ], ii [Ne ] optical, implying massive low-density ( 2 ) ∼40 kpc from galactic center. (3) intermediate component only between (2), might bridge gases circumnuclear circumgalactic scales. Follow-up observations spatial resolution sensitivity are needed confirm speculation helpful reveal outflows multiscales J1217+0234.

15 صفحه اولVariability in quasar broad absorption line outflows – III. What happens on the shortest time-scales?
Broad absorption lines (BALs) in quasar spectra are prominent signatures of high-velocity outflows, which might be present in all quasars and could be a major contributor to feedback to galaxy evolution. Studying the variability in these BALs allows us to further our understanding of the structure, evolution and basic physical properties of the outflows. This is the third paper in a series on a...
متن کاملUltraviolet and Optical Emission Line Outflows in the Heavily Obscured Quasar SDSS J000610.67+121501.2: At the Scale of the Dusty Torus and Beyond
Broad emission line outflows of active galactic nuclei have been proposed for many years but are very difficult to quantitatively study because of the coexistence of the gravitationally bound and outflow emission. We present detailed analysis of a heavily reddened quasar, SDSS J000610.67+121501.2, whose normal ultraviolet broad emission lines (BELs) are heavily suppressed by the dusty torus as ...
متن کاملIntergalactic Magnetic Fields from Quasar Outflows
Outflows from quasars inevitably pollute the intergalactic medium (IGM) with magnetic fields. The short-lived activity of a quasar leaves behind an expanding magnetized bubble in the IGM. We model the expansion of the remnant quasar bubbles and calculate their distribution as a function of size and magnetic field strength at different redshifts. We generically find that by a redshift z ∼ 3, abo...
متن کاملProbing Broad Absorption Line Quasar Outflows: X-ray Insights
Energetic outflows appear to occur in conjunction with active mass accretion onto supermassive black holes. These outflows are most readily observed in the ∼ 10% of quasars with broad absorption lines, where the observer’s line of sight passes through the wind. Until fairly recently, the paucity of X-ray data from these objects was notable, but now sensitive hard-band missions such as Chandra a...
